Is it really free?
Yes, entirely. No account, no subscription, no advertising, and nothing is collected about you. Content added later stays free for everyone who already has the app.
How much is finished?
HSK 4 has 7 days written — 175 words with example sentences, collocations and memory hooks. HSK 1, 2 and 3 are being written. New days arrive as free updates.
We say this plainly rather than showing locked content that does not exist.
I hear no sound when I tap a word
The app uses the Chinese voice built into your phone, and many devices have none installed.
Android: Settings → System → Languages & input → Text-to-speech output → install the Chinese (Mandarin) voice data.
iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Chinese.
When no Chinese voice is present, the app simply hides the speaker buttons and shows pinyin. Everything else keeps working.
Does it work offline?
Always. The whole course is stored on your device and no screen makes a network request. Aeroplane mode changes nothing.
I lost my progress
Progress lives only on your device, so deleting the app or losing the phone loses it. Settings has an export button that saves your progress as a file — use it before you change phones.
Can I use it on a computer?
Yes, at https://chinesely.app. Progress on the website is stored in that browser and is separate from progress in the app.
Is this official HSK material?
No. It is independent study material organised around the HSK syllabus. We are not affiliated with any body that administers the examination.
I found a mistake in a sentence
Please tell us — send the level, the day number and the word. Corrections go out in the next update, and we would rather hear it than not.
